Aishwarya Rai also known by her married name Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She is an Indian actress, model and winner of the Miss World 1994. Through her successful acting career, she has established herself as one of the most popular celebrities in India. 

Early Life and Modeling Career
Aishwarya Rai was born on 1 November 1973 into a Tulu speaking family Karnataka. Her father Krishnaraj was an Army biologist, her mother Brinda, is a homemaker. she has one elder brother, Aditya Rai, who is an engineer in the merchant navy. Her movie Dil Ka Rishta 2003, was co-produced by her brother and co-writing by her mother. The family moved to Mumbai, were she attended the Arya Vidya Mandir high school. She did her intermediate schooling at Jai Hind college for a year, and then joined DG Ruparel college, securing 90% in the HSC exams. 
She trained in classical dance and music for five years during her teens. In 1993, she gained huge public recognition for her appearance in a Pepsi commercial with actors Aamir Khan and Mahima Chaudry. She won the crown of Miss World in 1994.

Acting Career
Aishwarya Rai made her acting debut in 1997 with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film. That same year, she was cast as Ashi, a naive teenager in her first Bollywood film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, a romantic comedy opposite Bobby Deol. The film was a commercial failure but she won a Screen Award for best female debut. Her first role in 1999 was in a melodrama Aa Ab Laut Chalen, directed by Rishi Kapoor. The film was a critical failure and had a below average performance at box office. 
In 1999, she starred in the romantic film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which became a turning point in her career, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-starred Salman Khan. The film was emerged as a major commercial success and she won a Filmfare award for best actress. 
Her next release in 2000, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Chandrachur Singh in the action film Josh. Despite earning mixed reviews from film critics, Josh emerged as a commercial success. Her next released was Hamara Dil Aap Ke Pass Hai, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Sonali Bandre. 
Following a leading role in the box office flop Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, she took on a supporting role in Aditya Chopra’s ensemble romance Mohabbatein, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. The film was a second highest grossing film of the year, and she earned a film fare award for best supporting actress nomination. 

After featuring in Hum Kisise Kam Nahi, she appeared alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s love saga Devdas, the film emerged as a major international success with revenue of US $13 million. In 2003, she featured in two romantic films of Bollywood, her brother’s production debut, Dil Ka Rishta alongside Arjun Rampaul, and Kuch Na Kahoo with Abhishek Bachchan. 
The year of 2004, she appeared in acting thrilling film Khakee alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. Aishwarya next starred with Sanjay Dutt and Zayad Khan in the 2005, Shabd. In 2006, she appeared in Yash Raj Films, Dhoom 2, alongside Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu. The film was her first major commercial success since Devdas, the film declared a blockbuster, and became the highest grossing Indian film of 2006. In 2007, she played the wife of Abhishek Bachchan’s character in social film Guru. In the year of 2008, she appeared in box office success, Jodha Akbar alongside Hrithik Roshan

Her final release of 2016 was Karan Johar’s romantic film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. The film received positive reviews. 
As of January 2018, she has filmed the the part of a singer in the musical comedy Fanne Khan, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao. 

Personal Life
In 1999, she began dating Bollywood actor Salman Khan, their relationship was often reported in the media until the couple separated in 2002. In the filming of Dhai Akshar Prem Ke and Kuch Naa Kahoo, Abhishek Bachchan fell in love with Aishwarya Rai with her whilst filming Dhoom 2. Their engagement was announced on 14 January 2007. The couple married on 20 April 2007, according to traditional Hindu rites, to which she belongs. The couple has one daughter Aradhya, on 16 November 2011. she is commonly referred to by fans and the media by the nicknames, “Ash” and “Aish” but she stated that she dislikes being called as such.
