Kareena Kapoor is an Indian actress who appear in Hindi films. She is is the daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita, and the younger sister of actress Karishma Kapoor. After making of her acting debut in 2000 war film Refugee, she established herself in Hindi cinema with roles in the historical film Ashoka and blockbuster melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, both 2001.
Early Life and Background
Kareena Kapoor born on 21 September 1980 in Mumbai, she is the younger daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita, her elder sister Karishma is also an actress. She is the paternal grand daughter of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, maternal grand daughter of actor Hari Shivdasani, and nice of actor Rishi Kapoor.
She attended Jamnabai Narsee school in Mumbai, followed by Welham Girls school in Dheradun. After graduating from Welham she studied commerce for two years at Mithibai college in Vile Parle, Mumbai. Then she registered for a three month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School in the United States. She later developed an interest in law, and enrolled at the Government Law college Mumbai, during this period, she developed a long lasting passion for reading. However, after completing her first year, she decided to pursue her interest to became an actress. She began training at an acting institute in Mumbai mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor, a member of the film and television institute of India.
While training at the institute, she was cast as the female lead role Kaho Na Pyaar Hai 2000, opposite Hrithik Roshan. Several days into the filming, she abandoned the project, she debuted later that year alongside Abhishek Bachchan in Refugee 2000. Refugee was a moderate box office success in India, and her performance earned her the film fare award for best female debut.
For her second release, she was opposite paired Tsshar Kapoor, box office hit Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai 2001. She next star opposite Jackie Sharoff and Hrithik Roshan in Yaadein, followed by Abbas Mustan’s moderately successful thriller Ajnabee, co-staring Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Bipasha Basu. Later that year, she starred in Ashoka, featured opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
A key point in Kareena’s career when she was cast by Karan Johar’s melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in 2001. It also became one of the biggest Bollywood success of all time overseas market. Bollywood box office reported that the success of Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, established Kareena as a leading actress of Hindi cinema. During 2002 and 2003, she continued to work in a number of projects but experienced a setback.

After this, she was cast for the first time as a villain in the thriller Fida 2004, alongside Fardeen Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Her subsequent releases that year included Abbas Mustan’s thriller Aitraaz and comedy Hulchal, both of which were successful at the Indian box office.
Following the success of her last two release, she was cast as the protagonist of the 2005 film Bewafaa alongside Akshay Kumar. That same year she starred in Kyon ki alongside Salman Khan, and the film Dosti, both of her films was hits on box office.
In 2006, she appeared in 36 China Town opposite Shahid Kapoor, and the film Chup Chup ke, both were moderately successful. She also starred in the film Omkara.
In the year 2007, she cast in the romantic comedy, Jab we Met alongside Shahid Kapoor. She earned filmfare award for best actress, for her performance in the film. In 2008, she cast for the action thriller Tashan, where she met her future husband in actor Saif Ali Khan. After this she appeared many films including Kurbaan alongside Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Obroi. She appeared in 3 Idiots alongside Aamir Khan. In 2010, she appeared in romantic comedy Milenge Milenge with Shahid Kapoor. She had further success in 2011 as the love interest of Salman Khan‘s character in the romantic film Bodyguard. She followed her success in Bollywood and Ra-One with a role in Shah Rukh Khan. She starred in Ek Main Aur Ek Tum opposite Imran Khan in 2012. She appeared again with Imran Khan in Gori Tere Pyaar Main 2013. She also appeared in Singham Returns 2014, and Bhajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015.
In 2016, she took a starring role opposite Arjun Kapoor in Ki & Ka, romantic comedy. She next cast for Udta Punjab 2016.
Kareena had a relationship with Shahid Kapoor during thi filming of Fida, 2004. The couple separated in 2007 during the filming of ‘Jab We Met’. Kareena married with Saif Ali Khan. On 20 December 2016, Kareena gave birth to her son, Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi.
