Katrina Kaif, born Katrina Turquotte, 16 July 1983, is a British actress who works in Hindi films. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics for her acting prowess, she has established herself in Bollywood, and is among the country’s highest paid actresses.
Born in Hong Kong, Kaif and her family lived in several countries before she moved to London. She received her first modeling assignment as a teenager and later pursued a career as a fashion model. At a fashion show in London, filmmaker Kaizad Gustad spotted Kaif and decided to cast her in Boom 2003, a critical and commercial failure. While filming in India, Katrina receiving modeling assignments and established a successful modeling career. However, filmmakers were hesitant to cast her due to her poor command of Hindi. After appearing in the Telugu film malliswari 2004, Katrina earned commercial success in Bollywood with the romantic comedies Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya 2005 and Namastey London 2007. She followed with a series of box office hits, but was criticize for her acting, repetitive roles and inclination to male dominated film. 
Katrina’s performance in the terrorism drama New York 2009 was better received, earning her a film fare award for best actress nomination. After roles in Jab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani 2009, Rajneeti 2010 and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2011, she received her second Filmfare nomination for her performance in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan 2011. Katrina’s highest grossing came with the spy thriller Ek Tha Tiger 2012 and its 2017 sequel, and the action thriller Dhoom 3 2013, all of which rank among the highest grossing Indian films of all times. 

Early Life and Background
Katrina kaif was born in Hong Kong with her mother’s surname Turquotte, on 16 July 1983. According to actress, her father Muhammad Kaif is a British businessman of Kashmiri Indian descent and her mother is an English lawyer and charity worker. She has seven Siblings, three elder sisters and three younger sisters and an elder brother. 
Katrina’s parents divorced when she was a child, and her father moved to the United States. She said her father had no influence on Katrina and her siblings while they were growing up, and they were raised by their mother. On her father’s absence in her life, Katrina stated: “When I see friends who have wonderful fathers who are like pillars of support for their families, I say, if only I had that. But instead of complaining, I should be grateful for all the other things I have”. In a 2009 interview, she said she was not in touch with her father. 

At the age of fourteen, Katrina won a beauty contest in Hawaii, and received her first modeling assignment in a jewellery campaign. She subsequently modeled professionally in London, working for freelance agencies and appearing regularly at London fashion week. At a fashion show Katrina attracted the attention of London based filmmaker Kaized Gustad. He selected her for a role in the Hindi-English erotic heist film Boom as a part of an ensemble cast included Amitabh Bachchan, Gulshan Grover and Padma Lakshami. 

Commercial Success and Breakthrough
Katrina Kaif’s career prospects changed in 2007, when she appeared in Bollywood hits. She appeared Namastey London with Akshay Kumar Katrina’s chemistry with co-star Akshay Kumar was particularly well received.
She had a supporting role as a doctor in the sports drama Apne. The film was highly anticipated as it marked the first appearance of Dharmendra with his sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.

After this (2009 to 2015) Katrina appeared many films like De Dna Dan, Tees Maar Khan, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Yash Raj films Mere Brother Ki Dulhan with Imran Khan and Ali Zafar, Agneepath, Ek Tha Tiger. Katrina also appeared with Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in Yash Chopra’s romantic Jab Tak Hai Jaan. In 2013, she appeared briefly with Amir Khan action thriller Dhoom 3. In 2014, she appeared with Hritik Roshan movie Bang Bang.

In 2016, Katrina appeared with Aditya Rai Kapor in Fitoor. Later that year she featured in love story Baar Baar Dekho with Sidharth Malhotra. As of December 2017, Katrina re-united with Salman Khan and reprized the role of Zoya in the action thriller film Tiger Zinda Hai. 

Personal Life
Katrina’s personal life has been the subject of extensive media attention. Although rumors of a relationship with Salman Khan first emerged in 2003, it was not until after their 2010 breakup that Katrina spoke of the affair, calling it her first serious relationship. They have remained friends and the actress credits Khan with giving her confidence and guidance.
The reported for their breakup was Katrina’s increasing closeness to Ranbir Kapoor during the filming of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.

Katrina is a celebrity spokesperson for a number of brands including Slice, Nakshatra, Lux, Panasonic, Lakme and L’Oreal.
