Shraddha Kapoor is an Indian actress and singer who works in Hindi movies, she is the daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor. She began her acting career with a brief role in the 2010 heist film Teen Patti. In addition to acting in films, she has sung several of her films song. She participates in stage shows and concerts. She features in listing of the most attractive and popular celebrities in India.
Early Life and Background
Shraddha Kapoor was born on 3 March 1987 raised in Mumbai. On her father’s side, she is Punjabi and her mother’s side she is Marathi descent. Hailing from a family of actors, she desired to became an actress since a young age. Shraddha’s family members including her father Shakti Kapoor, her elder brother Sidhanth Kapoor, her two aunts Padmini and Tajeswini and her grand aunts Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Shraddha did her schooling at Jamnabai Narsee school and at the age of 15 she shifted to the American school of Bombay. Where she was schoolmate with actress Athya Shetty and actor Tiger Shroff. She then enrolled in Boston University to major in psychology, but subsequently left in her freshman year to appear in her debut film after she was seen on Facebook by producer Ambika Hinduja, who cast her for a role in Teen Patti. She was trained as a singer since her childhood as her maternal grandfather (the cousin of singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle) and mother are classical singer.
Debut and Career
Shraddha made her acting debut in the 2010 film Teen Patti, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley and R. Madhavan. She played the role of a college girl. The film received generally negative reviews, though her performance was better received. She was nominated for the film fare award for best female debut, but the film failed to do well at the box office.
After the debut, she signed a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films and featured on their 2011 teen comedy Luv Ka The End with Taaha Shah. She portrayed the lead role of a teenage student who plots against her boyfriend after he cheats on her. The film under performed at the box office, and received mic reviews from critics. She was subsequently offered the lead female role in Aurangzeb as a part of her deal with Yash Raj Films. However, she signed on to Vishesh Film’s Aashiqui 2 instead, there by cancelling the three film contract with Yash Raj Films.
In 2013, she found her breakthrough role in Mohit Suri’s romantic musical film Aashiqui 2, the sequel to the 1990 film Aashiqui, alongside Aditya Roy Kapoor. The film was a major box office success with a global revenue US $17 million. she received several nominations in the best actress category, including one at the Filmfare awards. That year, she also appeared in a guest appearance for the romantic comedy Gori Tere Pyaar Main, playing the fiance of Imran Khan.
She next reunited with Suri 2014 for the thriller Ek Villain, for which she also sung the song Galliyan, alongside Sidharth Malhotra. The film emerged as a major commercial success with domestic revenues of over US $16 million. Her second release that year was critically acclaimed film Haider, opposite Shahid Kapoor and Tabu.
In 2015, she starred in a sequel to the dance film ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, entitled ABCD 2, alongside Varun Dhawan. The film earned US $24 million worldwide to became her highest grossing release. She began 2016 by featuring as star Tiger Shroff’s love interest in the action film Baaghi, about a pair of rebellious lovers set against she backdrop of a martial arts school.
She next appeared in Ekta Kapoor’s action film A Flying Jutt with Tiger Shroff. Her final release of the year was the rock musical film Rock On 2. She began 2017 with romantic film Ok Jaanu, in which she reunited with Aditya Roy Kapur. Her second release of that year was romantic film Half Girlfriend, where she was seen collaborating again with director Mohit Suri and producer Ekta Kapoor. Neither Ok Jaanu nor Half Girlfriend performed well at the box office.
As of December 2017, she is scheduled to star in a biopic of Saina Nehwal directed by Amole Gupte. As of December 2017, she will feature opposite Rajkumar Rao in horror comedy Stree.
